Portfolio > Figure studies and portraits

This painting was done from a series of sketches of a model who came to pose in my studio. I liked the curved wood back of the chair which had little slits carved into it. The light shining through the slits gave the impression of little wings. And I wanted the folds of the shirt to have a monumentality, like the draping in an ancient Greek statue, or one of Cezanne's tablecloths.

Painted at the 19th Ave. Studio, Portland, Oregon.
