Seattle Exihibit of Jazz Paintings!
*From December 18, 2014, through March 11, 2015, I have two large jazz paintings featured in an exhibit at an upscale retirement community called Aljoya Thornton Place. Other jazz painters from the Pacific Northwest are featured in a show entitled "Speak Easy" at 450 NE 100th St. in Northeast Seattle near the Northgate Mall. If you're in the area, please drop by and check it out!
This spring the weather has been warmer and drier than normal in Oregon's Willamette Valley. I've gone out plein air painting several times and am working on another study of Mt. Hood. I've also got a couple of Portland Cityscapes going from the rooftop of my building. I hope to finish up a couple of landscapes from last year as well. Then there is the Selfie series, still underway. At present my main venue is the Portland Art Museum Rental Sales Gallery, though I still have many paintings at Attic Gallery that are available for viewing by request.
Paramount Apartments Commission:
In the Spring of 2013, I was commissioned to do a painting of the Paramount Apartments building on N. Broadway, across from the Rose Quarter, in Portland, Oregon. I had been, and still am, a resident of the Paramount. The owners, Rich and Betsy Reese, were familiar with my artwork, and when they decided to sell the building after 15 years of ownership they wanted a keepsake to commemorate their years there. In September I began the painting of the front entrance and main facade of the building. Rich tied back some bushes in a landscaped area in front of the building so I could set up my easel. Most of the painting was done plein air, and finished when the fall weather set in by using photos I had taken. I also did a couple of drawings of the building. As it happened, 2013 marked the 90th anniversary of the Paramount. You can see an image of the painting in the Cityscape Portfolio of my web site.
