If you look at the thumbnails of these two Mt. Hood paintings side by side, it looks like the same painting. They were both painted from the same viewpoint, at Panorama Point just south of Hood River. But this one was painted a year later and I went to the motif four times, instead of painting it alla prima like the first one. Later, I finished the painting from memory in my studio and added many more layers of paint. This enabled me to let go of the image and complete the painting in terms of color, brushwork, and handling details more abstractly.
